Jan Priiskorn Schmidt er søn af italienske forældre på Islands Brygge i København. Hans onkel var biografkontrollør og foreslog, at han blev prøvefilmet til "Flemming og Kvik", så Jan Priiskorn-Schmidt debuterede som 9-årig og fik roller i 24 film foruden i tv-spil. I Morten Pils "Danske filmskuespillere" roses han for sin stensikre replikbehandling og for rollerne som den skarpsindige ungtjener i "Sommer i Tyrol", den dæmoniske detektivdreng i "Døden kommer til middag", den frække dreng i "Passer passer piger" og en ultra-cool messedreng i "En pige og 39 sømænd". Oplysningen om, at han blev tandlæge er forkert. Han kaldes dansk films bedste barneskuespiller, men i 1972 frabad han sig henvendelser fra filmproducenter og trak sig væk fra offentligheden. I 1989 blev han uddannet på Sahva og har siden været ortopædisk skomagermester.
