Barbara Brylska nasceu em 5 de junho de 1941, em Skotniki, perto de Lodz, Polônia. Na idade de 15, ela foi escalada para o filme Kalosze szczescia. Após esse papel, ela tomou aulas de atuação em uma escola de teatro e se tornou um estudante na Escola Nacional de Cinema em Łódź. Em 1967, ela completou sua educação atuando no Warsaw School of Theatre, Cinema e Televisão. Primeiro grande papel de Brylska foi no filme Ich powszedni dzień (1963). Em 1966, ela interpretou a fenícia sacerdotisa Kama no filme Faraó (polonês: Faraon), baseado no romance por Bolesław Prus. Além de filmes polacos-dirigida, ela também jogou em filmes dirigidos por Soviética, Checoslováquia e búlgaros diretores.
